Seeking a Neuroscience Laboratory Technician to support the Howard Lab’s research program in the Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin. Our research programs use transgenic mouse models and a variety of scientific techniques to understand basic mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders including epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder. We are a collaborative, inclusive research team of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, high school interns, and research technicians.
Research technicians are core members of our team who provide critical support for all of the experiments performed in the laboratory. We seek an individual who is detail-oriented, precise and accurate in their work, and wishes to contribute to our cutting-edge scientific research programs. Technicians have the potential to develop skills and knowledge in a number of domains including neuroscience, molecular biology, 3D printing, experimental design, data analysis, written and oral presentation of scientific work, and mentoring others.
Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
-Animal colony management: animal husbandry and maintaining a detailed database of information on each animal in the colony.
-Experimental work: performing experiments, quantitative analysis of acquired data, making graphs and figures for data visualization, group presentation, and scientific writing.
-General lab management: keeping chemical/biohazard inventories, leading lab inspections, ordering and receiving supplies for the laboratory, etc.
-Other functions as assigned.
