A Postdoc Position – RNA and Chromatin Biology, Houston, Texas
One NIH-funded postdoc position is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Wenbo Li in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, McGovern Medical School, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas.
Research Summary: Our lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of RNA-mediated gene regulation and 3D chromatin organization in mammalian cells. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with an enthusiasm to uncover fundamental biology mechanisms, and their relevance to human disease such as cancer and neurological diseases (both wet or dry lab candidates are welcome). Good communication skills and broad knowledge of molecular biology, gene transcriptional regulation, epigenetics, RNA biology, or cancer biology are required. Interested candidates are encouraged to read our recent publications: Nature Communications. 2019; Nature reviews. Genetics. 2016; 17(4):207-23); Nature. 2013;498(7455):516-20; Mol Cell. 2015;59(2):188-202;
You may as well read other relevant papers authored by Dr. Li, including: Trends in biochemical sciences. 2014; 39(4):170-82; Nature. 2014; 514(7521):257-61; Cell. 2014; 159(2):358-73; Cell. 2015; 160(3):367-80; A complete list can be found in Google Scholar page: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=cBKgsuAAAAAJ&hl=en
Our lab is located in the center of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, the world’s largest Medical Center. We have extensive collaboration in the field, and will provide ample opportunities for the candidates to develop their research careers. Competitive salary and benefits are provided. Extension will be considered based on performance.
About you: We would be very pleased to learn about you if you: 1) are highly self-motivated; 2) have a recent PhD, or MD/PhD degree, with first-author publications (or in revision), 3) have extensive experiences in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or cell biology in mammalian cell lines, primary cells or animal models; 4) have a background in one of two areas: a) epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation (e.g. histone modifying enzymes, chromatin remodelers and other epigenetic regulators); b) RNA biology.
If you are a purely dry-lab bioinformatician with extensive experiences in analyzing advanced epigenomic datasets, you are welcome to apply as well.
Li lab utilizes biochemical methods and extensive -omics approaches (e.g. ChIP-seq / Cut&Run, PRO-seq, Hi-C, CLIP-seq, and single cell RNA-seq etc.), as well as genome editing tools such as Crispr/Cas9 and Cas13. Candidates with experiences on one or several of these methods are strongly preferred. Experience with bioinformatics analyses of the associated datasets is a plus.
To apply: Contact Dr. Li at Wenbo.email@example.com, with an email title of “Postdoc _your name _ degree granting institution _ graduation year”. For example: “Postdoc_ Jason Smith_UTHealth_2020”. Please be prepared to provide 1) your updated cv; 2) a brief description of your short term and long-term goals, scientific background and interests (in 2 pages); and 3) the contact information of three Referees.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is an EEO/AA Employer. M/F/D/V. This is a security sensitive position and thereby subject to Education Code §51.215. A background check will be required for the final candidate.
