The laboratory of Dr. Chongzhi Zang at the University of Virginia is seeking to fill multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in the broad field of bioinformatics and computational biology. The research program in the Zang lab focuses on developing computational methodologies and designing integrative data science approaches to study chromatin epigenomics and gene regulation. Current ongoing projects include: statistical modeling and advanced machine learning method development for transcriptional regulation prediction from multi-omics data; model-based algorithm development for single-cell epigenomics and spatial multi-omics data analysis; statistical and computational modeling of phase-separated transcriptional condensation; epigenetics and transcriptional regulation in immunity and cancer systems, etc. More information about research directions and previous publications can be found from the lab website: http://zanglab.org The Zang Lab is well funded by NIH and other agencies. Each postdoctoral scientist in the lab will receive comprehensive and personalized training in research and career development, and will have extensive opportunities for independent and collaborative research. Based at the Center for Public Health Genomics in UVA’s School of Medicine, the lab has established close collaborations with multiple labs both within the University of Virginia and across the country. To qualify for this position, a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a quantitative science major, including but not limited to Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required by the start date. A successful candidate must have strong programming skills in Python (or C/C++) & R, a strong quantitative background (e.g., statistical modeling, machine learning, computational or theoretical physics, etc.) or computational genomics experience (e.g., next-generation sequencing analysis, etc.). Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are also required. A publication record of at least one peer-reviewed paper written in English in the previous area of research (not necessarily related to computational biology) with submitted, accepted or published status is required at the time of application. Women and underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. A complete application should include a brief cover letter, a complete CV, and contact information for three references, in PDF format. Applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line “Postdoc application”. The opportunities will remain open until all positions are filled.
