The Doherty lab focuses on understanding normal and abnormal brain development using human hindbrain malformation disorders as a starting point. Located in the University of Washington Pediatric Division of Genetic Medicine, the lab provides a highly collaborative translational research environment interfacing with the incredible wealth of neuroscience and genomic research resources in the Seattle area, including other laboratories in the Division, as well as UW Genome Sciences, Seattle Children’s Hospital Center for Integrative Brain Research, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Available projects involve identifying genetic causes of human hindbrain malformation disorders using next generation sequencing and other genomic techniques, and modeling human hindbrain malformations such as Joubert syndrome and rhombencephalosynapsis using patient cell lines, and mouse models in collaboration with the laboratory of Kathleen Millen, PhD at Seattle Children’s Research Institute. If desired, additional work in the laboratory includes detailed phenotypic characterization of human hindbrain patients using clinical features, imaging, and neuropathology. Candidates should be self-motivated, career academic scientists with strong background in genetics, molecular biology and/or developmental biology (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent). Two to three years of funding will be provided while the post-doc applies for their own support.
For consideration, please email your CV and contact information. Feel free to call if you have questions.
