Two postdoc or research scientist positions in structural biology and biophysics of infectious disease are available in the Lee group at the University of Washington.
Our over-arching goal is to understand host-pathogen interactions in the context of intact viruses and cells by harnessing structural and biophysical approaches that enable us to directly image and probe dynamic conformational changes as pathogens carry out biological functions such as invasion and assembly. For example, we apply cryo-electron tomography, single particle cryo-EM, and structural mass spectrometry to investigate membrane fusion and cell entry by enveloped viruses. Additional projects investigate the host infection machinery used by eukaryotic parasites.
Experience in cryo-EM/ET with single-particle or subtomogram averaging is highly desirable, though candidates with expertise in biophysical, structural, or computational modeling methods are also encouraged to apply. Opportunities for training in additional techniques and collaborations in virology and immunology are available.
Positions are funded and available for start as soon as December 2020.
To apply, send CV, a brief statement outlining your interests and relevant experience, as well as contact information for two references.
