The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC; www.glbrc.org) is recruiting for several microbial science postdoctoral positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The GLBRC and UW-Madison provide an outstanding collaborative scientific training environment for talented and motivated individuals who seek to use state of the art interdisciplinary approaches to study microbes.
Each position combines genomics, systems, synthetic and computational biology, with metabolism, and enzymology and genetics, using design-test-learn cycles to generate valuable chemicals from plant biomass. These projects provide laboratory and computational training in understanding and modeling the lifestyles of a-proteobacteria (https://doi.org/10.1128/mSystems.00526-21, https://doi.org/10.1128/AEM.01742-21, https://doi.org/10.1128/mSystems.00526-21) and microbial communities (https://doi.org/10.1128/msystems.00755-20) to engineer them as new microbial chassis. GLBRC is positioned to be the global leader in the biology of a-proteobacteria and industrial microbial communities, so the positions provide tremendous preparation for a career in developing clean energy microbes, addressing climate change, and other areas of biotechnology. The mentors and GLBRC are committed to the trainee’s scientific and professional development, with the ability to participate in professional development (https://postdoc.wisc.edu/), teaching (https://delta.wisc.edu/) or other career preparation programs.
The positions come with competitive salaries based on experience, and excellent health benefits. Candidates should be within three years of a PhD degree at the start of the position. Questions about projects should be sent to Patricia Kiley (pjkiley@wisc.edu), Tim Donohue (tdonohue@bact.wisc.edu), or Dan Noguera (noguera@engr.wisc.edu).
Funding is available now for several positions, but additional openings are expected later in 2022. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Applications should consist of a single pdf file that includes a letter with highlights of past research accomplishments, and how this research aligns with your career goals and expands your training; a curriculum vitae; and contact information for three references. UW-Madison is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and is committed to be an institution of diversity and inclusivity.
