Van Andel Research Institute (VARI), a leading independent biomedical research facility, is dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 400 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.
A research technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hong-Yuan Chu, Van Andel Institute, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA (https://chulab.vai.org). The laboratory is part of the Center for Neurodegenerative Science (https://vari.vai.org/neurodegenerative-science/) and studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease symptoms. The research technician will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment that allows close interaction with a growing Parkinson’s research community at VARI. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to be trained with both traditional and state-of-the-art technologies for neuroscience and neurodegeneration research.
In this role, you would be tasked to:
· Order and receive laboratory supplies and reagents.
· Prepare solutions and reagents for brain slice electrophysiology experiments.
· Perform rodent stereotaxic surgery.
· Immunohistochemical analysis of brain tissues.
· This list will change as projects evolve and you should be open-minded to learn new things.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience or related science.
· Experience working with mice is highly preferred.
· Experience in electrophysiology is desirable.
