The Bouma lab (https://octresearch.org) at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School is looking for applicants for a postdoctoral position for a project under the supervision of Drs. Brett Bouma and Néstor Uribe-Patarroyo.
Fellows will be appointed through Harvard Medical School and should have doctoral research experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Optics or a closely related field.
The ideal candidate should have solid theoretical and experimental foundations to be comfortable working at the boundary of physics and engineering in the development of new diagnostic technologies. The fellow will work on a project that combines the design, assembly and testing of a sonic/ultrasonic device with a strong component of signal processing, and training of a deep convolutional neural networks using data acquired from the assembled devices. Work involving swine models and tissue is a necessary and important aspect of the research project. The fellow will work in a highly collaborative environment, interfacing with clinical collaborators, and should have the drive and creativity to lead their project independently.
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in ultrasound imaging is required, with a background in the assembly of ultrasound systems being highly desired. Expertise in signal processing in Matlab or similar, and data acquisition with Labview/C++ or similar is required.
Active intellectual sharing and collaboration, mentorship with a focus on career development, and diversity/inclusion are core values of the lab. A fellow seeking a career in academia may augment their research experience by developing mentored relationships with multiple faculty members and in supervising and guiding graduate students and research technicians. Other opportunities for growth include occasional teaching of graduate seminars and the development of peer-review and grant writing skills. Candidates seeking careers in industry may leverage from international and local startup companies that market clinical imaging technologies licensed from our laboratory.
Contact:
Interested candidates should send their CV, a cover letter describing relevant training and research experience, and the names and contact information of two references to Dr. Néstor Uribe-Patarroyo with the subject “Novel diagnostic sonography position”.
