General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Manager will be responsible for managing an established cancer biology laboratory and performing highly specialized experiments to study the biological processes occurring in cancer. The position will focus on providing daily operational management and oversight of the laboratory and select personnel, the mouse colony, all aspects of care and regulations, and related data analysis for research projects. Actively participate in the design and development of experiments on tumors and the development of protocols. Responsible for all regulatory aspects of the lab including safety, animal care and IRB. Collaborate with the PI in order to develop long-range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory.
The candidate selected will facilitate and prepare elements of grant proposals and progress reports for the laboratory. Carries out research assignments for a large or multi-faceted research project, including coordination and implementation of collaborative research efforts. Performs independent research, experiments, and laboratory techniques.
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working in Lab Management. Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and oversee research protocols for others. Familiarity with preparing grant proposals and progress reports.
Ability to multitask and set priorities for self and other lab staff and multiple
Ability to foster and maintain relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students, and to work effectively in a large, complex organization and beyond the institution.
Background in molecular biology.
Preferred Education and Experience: Previous experience managing staff in a laboratory setting strongly preferred. Experience working with mouse models of human cancer. Experience conducting preclinical studies in mice, handling and analyzing mouse tissue samples, tissue culture, and immunohistochemistry.
