UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

We are looking for professionals who can convey their industry experience and knowledge to our students using actual work examples and applications for topics covered in our program in Artificial Intelligence Technology, Advanced AI Systems and Development, and Machine Learning. Industry experience is a must have.

Job Description

Artificial Intelligence Technology and GenAI instructor to teach 100% online course mode on a quarterly basis and ongoing.

The current opening is for our Artificial Intelligence Technology, Machine Learning, and GenAI courses. Qualified applicants possessing current knowledge and teaching experience in this area are encouraged to apply (teaching experience is not required).

We are currently looking for instructors to teach in the following AI and ML Courses:

• AI Safety, Policy, and Ethics
• Large Language Models
• Natural Language Processing
• Big Data Management
• Gen AI Applications
• Machine Learning
• Deep Learning
• Machine Learning System Design
• AI Dev Ops

Instructor Duties:

• Develop and/or update existing course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Portfolio Director • Prepare and/or update existing course materials and learning assessments in Canvas • Communicate and teach the course objectives and learning outcomes to students. • Weekly and preferably daily interaction with students' discussion posts on Canvas for the highest engagement and collaboration opportunities with students to promote a positive learning experience. • Conduct weekly live/zoom office hours for Q/A and to promote face-to-face engagement and communication with students, and foster authenticity. • Review students' progress through the course assignments and apply timely grading at a minimum on a weekly basis. • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner. • Interact with the UCLA Extension Computer Science and Engineering Department's internal staff for timely administrative tasks. •Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in the classroom inclusive of both domestic and international student populations • Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform in face-to-face courses and as the delivery platform in online and hybrid courses.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications: At time of hire, candidates must show proof of United States work authorization, and must reside in United States during the instructional quarters.

• PhD or MS degree in high tech, engineering, or computer science fields and minimum of 5 years of hands-on industry experience OR Bachelor's degree and 15 years of hands-on industry experience. • Professionals who are up to date with the latest tools, technologies, and innovations in the AI industry. • Professionals who hold key positions within their industries overseeing AI projects. • Passion in teaching, subject matter expertise, and committed to course related development and maintenance. • Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity. • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information. • Highly effective interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications: • Teaching experience at college-level or higher (preferred) • Experience designing curriculum on Canvas (or similar) and measuring student performance (preferred)
