The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Professor in Companion Animal General Practice with a focus to strengthen and further develop research and clinical education within companion animal general practice. The position is fixed term for four years. The position is anchored in the Section for Companion Animal Clinical Practice and Diagnostics and placed within the Research group for Companion Animal General Practice, Dermatology and Didactics. The group contributes to interdisciplinary projects focusing on companion animal general medicine, surgery, companion animal health, welfare, and disease prevention, as well as infection control.
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences covers strong and internationally recognized research areas in clinical veterinary sciences. Based on these, we want to set a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, clinical education and innovation within animal health and disease and be among the best public workplaces in Denmark. Our research supports teaching in a manner and quality securing continued national and international benchmarking. Companion animal general practice is a strategic priority area within the department. The Research group for Companion Animal General Practice, Dermatology and Didactics is primarily focused on creating the evidence to support rational diagnosis and treatment decisions related to medical and surgical companion animal diseases in general practice supporting day-one competence clinical education. Further the group performs research to promote companion animal health and welfare, disease prevention, infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship. The group also leads the strategic initiative UCPH Center for Veterinary Simulation supporting evidence-based teaching methods. Our research group is responsible for and is developing the propaedeutic and clinical general companion animal practice curriculum ensuring our new graduates the essential day-one competencies needed. Furthermore we are also involved in the Departments post-graduate educations. The Section for Companion Animal Clinical Practice and Diagnostics includes faculty, teaching staff, diplomates, residents, and senior clinicians. We work closely with all the University Hospital for Companion Animals clinical disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
The assistant professor will be expected to contribute actively to this profile with a particular focus on general practice and host-pathogen interactions and infection immunology.
Tasks
The position will have a clear focus on practice-oriented and implementation-focused research that can be easily translated into clinical and organizational practice. The position will also support the organization and teaching, including curriculum development across the fields of medicine, surgery and didactics in companion animal general practice. Collaboration with companion animal practice and outreach to other research groups across the department and externally within and outside the University of Copenhagen is essential.

Qualifications
We are looking for a PhD-level veterinarian with a strong research profile in companion animal general practice, health and welfare, disease prevention, infection immunology, and/or antimicrobial stewardship. The ideal candidate is passionate about combining clinical practice with impactful research and public engagement.
Desirable Qualifications
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Documented teaching qualifications and propaedeutic and clinical teaching experience in a specialized university hospital setting is preferred.
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates.
