The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (IKV) invites applications for a highly motivated and academically ambitious Assistant Professor in Veterinary Cardiology to commence on 1 July 2026 or after agreement.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences covers strong and internationally recognized research areas in clinical veterinary sciences. Based on these, we aim to establish a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, education, and innovation in animal health and disease, and to be among Denmark's top public workplaces. Our research group supports teaching in a manner and quality that secures continued national and international benchmarking. Veterinary Cardiology is part of the Section for Diagnostic Imaging, Companion Animal Surgery, and Clinical Specialties, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

The Veterinary Clinical Cardiology group is a group of highly dedicated and enthusiastic veterinary cardiology researchers and clinicians. It comprises a national specialist, an associate professor, a teaching assisting professor, and a cardiology clinician.

Our research focuses on clinical and comparative aspects of veterinary cardiology, including disease phenotyping, advanced echocardiography, cardiac screening programs, translational cardiology (HCM in cats), and myxomatous mitral valve disease. We collaborate actively with national and international partners in veterinary and comparative cardiology and are in the process of establishing a European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) residency program.

Clinical activities are anchored at the University Hospital for Companion Animals, a high-volume referral center serving primary and secondary cardiology cases. The cardiology service is equipped with state-of-the-art echocardiography systems (including 3D and strain imaging), Holter monitoring, and facilities for interventional procedures.

We provide primary care and referral services, continuous professional education seminars for fellow veterinarians in primary practice and contribute to an international postgraduate master's program within Companion Animal Clinical Sciences.

You will support research, teaching, and clinical service development in veterinary cardiology.

Your tasks will include:

• Conducting research, including publishing and disseminating findings.
• Research-based teaching of veterinary students and postgraduate master's students in veterinary cardiology, as well as supervising bachelor's and veterinary thesis projects.
• Contributing to the clinical cardiology service at the University Hospitals for Companion Animals.
• Participating in the development and future supervision of residents in veterinary cardiology.
• Sharing knowledge with society and veterinary practitioners.
• Participating in pedagogical training for assistant professors.
• Administrative duties related to teaching, research, and clinical service.

Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. These criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding, and leadership) provide a framework for assessing candidates.

We seek a candidate with a strong academic track record and commitment to excellence in veterinary cardiology research, clinical cardiology and education on both graduate and post graduate level. The ideal applicant possesses:

• PhD degree or equivalent in a field relevant to veterinary cardiology. DipECVIM (Cardiology) or DACVIM [Cardiology] an advantage.
• Demonstrated research experience within veterinary cardiology.
• Documented teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate levels.
• DVM degree and authorization to practice veterinary medicine in Denmark, or hold a veterinary degree, which allows for a Danish Veterinary License within six months after accepting the job offer.
• Advanced clinical competencies in veterinary cardiology.
• Advanced clinical expertise in diagnostic and interventional cardiology.
• Experience and interest in veterinary clinical screening programs
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
• Proficient communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in teams.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).

If not proficient in Danish, a willingness to learn during employment.
