We seek an experienced physician-scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the translational science research group of Dr. Jeffrey Saver. Dr. Saver's research focuses on neurovascular disease and includes studies of novel acute stroke treatments, stroke prevention therapies, neurovascular imaging, clinical trial design, and neurocognitive consequences of brain vascular disease. Our research spans development of novel drugs (e.g. thrombolytics, neuroprotective agents, antithrombotics), development of novel devices (e.g. thrombectomy retrievers, PFO occluders, embolic protection), development and validation of novel neuroimaging biomarkers, design and performance of phase 1, 2, 3, and 4 clinical trials, studies in large, statewide and national clinical registries and administrative datasets. The successful candidate will be expected to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively under the supervision of the PI. He/She should be able to carry out experiments, to analyze data with minimal direct supervision, to perform structured assessments of patient status, and to communicate well with scientists at all levels.
Specific Responsibilities The successful candidate will participate in designing studies with the PI and other research group members, execute experiments in an independent manner, and assist in generating data for manuscript and grant preparation and revision. The scientist will train junior postdocs, technical staff, fellows and residents, and medical student, graduate and undergraduate researchers in common techniques and imaging analyses used in the laboratory. The scientist will also work with lab members to maintain a safe environment within the lab. Excellent bookkeeping and communication skills are a must. Requirements: Applicants must have an M.D or Ph.D. degree. Ideal candidates should have a strong background and experience in translational vascular neuroscience research. Experience in conducting large administrative data set analyses, complex clinical trial regulatory activities, and NIH research network studies is required. Experience in neuroimaging research is desirable. 2-3 years of independent postdoctoral research experience in an academic or equivalent setting is preferred.
