The research group is led by Professor Johan Malmström, whose goal is to develop methods in structural mass spectrometry and protein design for the development of enzymes with new functions. The group consists of senior researchers, postdocs, and doctoral students with expertise in clinical medicine, cell and molecular biology, proteomics, structural biology, and bioinformatics.
Within the research group, we value a good working environment characterized by respect and consideration in our interactions with one another. We continuously work to create conditions that promote job satisfaction, development, and participation for all employees.
We are now seeking an assistant researcher at 100% for a period of 12 months, with a desired start date of 1 May 2026.
Lund University is a public authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation entitlements, and a favorable occupational pension. We also have a flexitime agreement that provides good conditions for balancing work and leisure.
The position includes systematic bioinformatic analysis of bacterial genomes to identify sequence variations expected to influence the structure and function of bacterial enzymes. Selected variants will then be functionally and structurally characterized, with a focus on binding, cleavage efficiency, specificity, functional activity, and immunogenicity. Characterized naturally occurring enzyme variants will subsequently be redesigned to create optimized enzymes with improved or alternative functions.
Other duties related to the role may also be assigned.
Requirements for the position:
We expect that you are independent, structured, and proactive, with strong motivation to drive projects forward. You should also be analytical and solution-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and collaborate effectively with others.
Meritorious qualifications:
The position is a fixed-term special employment at 100% for the period 1 May 2026 – 30 April 2027.
Applications are submitted through the university's recruitment system. Your application must include a cover letter explaining your motivation for applying and how your qualifications match the position. The application must also include a CV, degree certificates or equivalent documents, and any other materials you wish to cite (copies of transcripts, reference contacts, letters of recommendation, etc.)
We warmly welcome your application!
