Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Bioconjugation Downstream Scientist Co-Op this Spring 2026, located in Malvern, PA.

J&J R&D encompasses the development of sophisticated materials, process improvements, risk management and mechanical testing through the development process across all sectors including Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Consumer and Corporate/Enterprise. Life as an R&D Co-Op: The R&D Co-Op program provides each student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, and the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. Each Co-Op will be assigned to a single function with a specific project for the 6-month term. The typical Co-Op term is from Jan 2026– Jun 2026.

Key Responsibilities: In this role, the Co-Op will…

• Support the development of high-throughput conjugation reactions for antibody conjugates using bifunctional chelator-linkers, non-potent molecules, and enzymes.
• Conduct bench-scale experiments with both established and novel conjugation chemistries to attach small molecules such as bifunctional chelator-linkers and chromophores, etc. The experiments will evaluate reaction kinetics in the presence or absence of enzymes, assess process performance and product quality, and address potential challenges.
• Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical techniques. Actively participate in weekly meetings with internal and external collaborators.
• Participate in technical discussions on design of experiments to fill gaps in knowledge.
• Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines.
• Provide other project support as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Biology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bioprocess Sciences, and related majors are preferred. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of a co-op assignment pursuing a Bachelor's or equivalent experience, Master's, or PhD degree or equivalent experience. For students pursuing their Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, Juniors or Seniors are preferred. Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required. Completion of Undergraduate Freshmen year at an accredited University is required.

Experience and Skills: Required: Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status). Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives while performing results. Must be a self-starter works independently while supplying to the team goals. Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities.

Preferred: Basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution, and data analysis. Students pursuing Master's/PhD. Experience with biochemical assay development, chromatography, tangential flow filtration, spectroscopy, and HPLC experience.
