Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

In this role as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist within our Analytical Sciences department of Vaccine R&D, you will apply your expertise in programming and bioinformatics to create cutting-edge digital solutions linked with our analytical laboratories. You will support the development of new vaccines and commercial vaccines, working with specialized teams in microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, and biochemistry. Ready to start?

Principal responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing advanced computational methods to support the portfolio of vaccines in development, optimizing analysis workflows, and integrating optimized algorithms.
• Automating and streamlining complex analyses by coding bioinformatics pipelines to efficiently process short-read and long-read sequencing data (Illumina and Oxford Nanopore) for the characterization of organisms (viruses, bacteria, eukaryotic cells) or molecules (mRNA, plasmids) of interest while maintaining the existing codebase.
• Managing and maintaining IT infrastructure and data storage on the cloud in collaboration with IT teams, respecting data security and management standards.
• Ensuring the scientific and technical interface with R&D teams of biologists by providing support for the IT environment, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of data while participating in their training.
• Contributing to scientific innovation for the deployment of new analytical tests and the analysis of new attributes by proposing emerging approaches while participating in strategic discussions and maintaining active technological surveillance in bioinformatics to integrate the latest advances in the field.
• Serving as a bridge between the disciplines of biochemistry, structural biology, and immunology to integrate and analyze multi-omics data to accelerate vaccine development and deepen their characterization.
• Ensuring regulatory compliance by adapting pipelines to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements, applying the best standards of design, development, and deployment, maintaining rigorous documentation, and ensuring the validation of analytical performance.

About you:

• Significant experience in developing high-throughput sequencing pipelines using Snakemake in a cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP…), with capabilities for performance optimization and scalability and other omics datasets.
• Proficiency in the development of bioinformatics tools including the creation of R/Python packages, software development including versioning (Git), continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), deployment via containerization (Docker/Singularity), and adherence to code quality standards (linting, documentation).
• Significant experience in applied genomic analyses to microorganisms and innovative therapies (trimming, QC, sequence alignment, variant calling, de novo assembly, functional and structural annotations, comparative analyses), including analytical validation and molecular characterization in a regulatory context.
• Proven skills in managing multidisciplinary projects with the ability to coordinate parallel initiatives in an agile environment, while maintaining effective communication between technician, scientific, and bioinformatics teams.
• Technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration: Ability to interact with developer teams, mentor junior collaborators, and promote productive interfaces between technical and non-technical disciplines.
• Education: Doctorate in computational biology, biostatistics, computer science, or a related technical field.
• Languages: Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written.
