We are excited to announce a funded Ph.D. position as part of the NSF-funded project “Preparing High School Students with Autism for the Future of Remote Software Development Work” (NSF Award #2148720). This is a unique opportunity for passionate individuals looking to engage in groundbreaking research, contribute to the development of innovative learning tools, and strategize to leverage the strengths of autistic students.
Role and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in contributing to the design and execution of a program that aims to bridge the talent gap in software development. You will have the chance to influence the way we educate and incorporate a more diverse talent pool into the software development industry.
Qualifications and Skills:
Ideal candidates will exhibit a strong interest in software development and inclusive education, and a commitment to broadening participation in STEM fields. Experience in remote learning environments, game-based learning, and working with neurodiverse individuals would be beneficial, but not required.

Must-have qualifications
- Strong interest in software development and inclusive education
- Ability to write and maintain code
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative to get things done
- Must be located within a commutable distance of Clemson, South Carolina, USA
Preferred qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in software development
- Strong background in remote and hybrid learning environments
- Experienced in designing and implementing game-based learning solutions
- Skilled in working with neurodiverse individuals
- Creating accessible learning tools
- Proven experience in technical writing, including documentation for educational technology and software tools
- Research experience in educational technology
- Research experience in learner engagement strategies
