Clinical Research Fellow

The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders. The Department incorporates groups from the Queen Square and Royal Free campuses of the Institute and includes the Reta Lila Weston Institute and the Movement Disorders Centre.

We offer excellent training in research and have well-funded and modern multidisciplinary facilities for studying cellular and animal models, human volunteers and patients with neurological disorders.

We are seeking a Clinical Research Fellow to support a new project funded by Cure Parkinson's Trust, “Ambroxol to Slow Progression in Parkinson Disease (ASPro-PD)”.

You will assist with the assessment of participants screened and recruited to the ASPro-PD trial using the standard MDS-UPDRS clinical assessment tool and help the participants complete questionnaires. This will be undertaken in collaboration with the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre (LWENC) UCLH Clinical Trials Unit, which will conduct most of the clinical assessments. However, you will be available to provide clinical advice and cover where required. You will assess adverse event profiles using the trial log. You will work closely with Dr Marco Toffoli, the UCLH Principal Investigator for the trial.

There may be the option to register for a part-time PhD for a research project within the department.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The role is available immediately and funded by a Cure Parkinson's Trust (CPT) grant for three years in the first instance.

You will be a registered medical practitioner with a licence to practise in the UK and have completed MRCP (or hold an equivalent qualification from an international institution).

You will also have experience in clinical research trials and an interest in developing disease modifying treatments for patients with movement disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, or Parkinson's disease.

Experience and familiarity with the administration of clinical questionnaires and cognitive and/or psychological rating scales, particularly the MDS-UPDRS, along with experience conducting patient interviews and delivering public presentations, are required.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

The role is offered in the range of £51,140 – £78,670 per annum including London Allowance, on the CL, RDPS, or StR scale, dependent on NHS contract and/or stage of clinical training.
