A Research Technician I position is available in the Pouchelon Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Our lab investigates the mechanisms underlying the interplay between nature and nurture during the development of cortical neural circuits. We also examine their alterations in mouse models of neurodevelopmental disorders.
More specifically, we focus on the various neuromodulator cues to which cortical neurons are exposed during early development, and their effect on the establishment of excitation-inhibition circuits. To address these questions, we use a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates mouse genetics, genomics, optogenetics, viral strategies, and behavioral analysis.
The technician will play a key role in the animal colony management (including genotyping and the design of genetic crosses), supporting laboratory organization, and conducting experiments that contribute to the success of our research projects (e.g. microscopy, histology and other techniques depending on project needs). While the lab fosters a strong team-oriented environment, you will also be expected to demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills and to transition to independent work quickly.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or relevant fields is required. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in a research lab and a cellular, molecular biology or animal behavior background. We are seeking for candidates with excellent organizational and communication skills, meticulous attention to details and strong sense of integrity. A two-year commitment is preferred.
