Computational Postdoc in Ribosome Specialization at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre Full-time

Computational Postdoc Position

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic computational postdoc for a three-year position to join the Lund Group.

Our team aims to understand how ribosome specialization leads to the installation of translational programs and how these processes are hijacked in human disease. Due to the central role of the ribosome in many biological processes, we use a broad panel of model systems, including human stem cells, neuronal cultures, and 2D and 3D cultures of human cells and patient samples.

The team is highly international, and we have a broad range of local and international collaborators. We believe that cooperation and collegiality are essential elements for research successes.

You will join the Lund Group focusing on ribosome heterogeneity and specialized translation. We use a broad array of wet lab and computational techniques and develop new techniques to push our research forward. We highly value collaboration and cocreation and you will have freedom to codevelop the project.

Your project will focus on developing computational tools to analyze single molecule nanopore sequencing data with a focus on RNA modifications. Key methods in nanopore sequencing and computational modeling have been established in the group. The project is conducted in collaboration with the programming group of Thomas Hamelryck.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• You have a PhD in biomedical or natural sciences
• Strong background in deep learning, with experience in probabilistic models (e.g., Variational Autoencoders, Bayesian approaches)
• Proficient Python programming for machine learning and scientific computing
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch, including GPU-accelerated model training and optimization
• Experience training and running models on shared HPC clusters and remote GPU servers, including working in multi-user environments
• Familiarity with large-scale experimentation, model debugging, and resource management in clustered computing settings
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
• Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Prior experience in computational biology with respect to RNA modification prediction is a plus
• Prior experience in working with protein synthesis/translation is an advantage
• Prior experience in molecular and cellular biology is an advantage

The place of employment is at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment:

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The position is available now and the start date is after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (November 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.07% to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
