Offer Description
The field of autonomous aerial robotics is undergoing a rapid transformation thanks to the increasing availability of powerful onboard deep learning hardware, making it feasible to run SOTA models. This project seeks a postdoctoral researcher with deep learning expertise to advance perception, localization, and decision-making in multi-drone systems.
Drones are often small, flat, and easily blend with the background, making their detection and tracking in real-world environments particularly challenging. We aim to explore advanced architectures such as recurrent vision transformers to enable robust tracking even under occlusion. In parallel, we are developing a multimodal SLAM system that learns from onboard sensors (vision, IMU, depth) and external sources such as satellite imagery. Self-supervised learning and diffusion-based multi-hypothesis inference will support resilient localization in GPS-denied environments. We are also exploring onboard deployment of LLMs for mission planning, and leveraging digital twins, simulation, and synthetic data to enable unsupervised representation learning and sim-to-real transfer, bypassing the need for extensive manual annotation.
We offer world-class expertise in drone design, control, swarming, and real-world autonomous deployment, and we seek a researcher to lead the deep learning direction and help integrate modern machine learning into truly intelligent aerial systems.
