We are looking for a creative person to pursue a PhD in Implantable Sensor Systems for Cardiovascular Applications in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems. Candidates with a background in biomedical, electrical, mechanical, or robotics engineering and research interests in signal processing, system modeling, micro and nano systems, and physiology are encouraged to apply.
You will be an integral part of the growing Intelligent Heart Technology Lab, whose mission is to advance cardiovascular health technologies. We develop and research implantable and wearable systems, including artificial hearts, blood pressure sensors, and soft robots for the heart, which adapt to people's physiological and mental needs. In this project, you will closely collaborate with clinicians (Karolinska Institute), enabling interdisciplinary discourse for maximal innovative breakthroughs.
The doctoral student will spearhead cutting-edge research on 'How to design durable sensor systems that exploit underlying physiological principles?' including methods from embedded systems, device manufacturing, and cardiovascular physiology. The doctoral student will also validate technologies in hybrid test rigs and translational preclinical models.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
