Lund University, Science Faculty, Department of Physics
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46,000 students and 8,500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the human condition.
The doctoral candidate will be appointed at the Division of Synchrotron Radiation Research, which offers a highly interdisciplinary research environment. The division's activities span from the development of advanced tools and methodologies, related to synchrotron radiation sources, imaging methods, and electron spectroscopy, to applications in materials science, including research on catalysis, magnetism, and semiconductors. The division comprises approximately 60 employees, about half of whom are doctoral students. Of particular relevance to this position is the research on light-induced ultrafast dynamics in small quantum systems on the attosecond timescale, conducted in close collaboration with the Lund Attosecond Science Center (LASC).
LASC is a world-leading research center in attosecond science, bringing together more than 20 researchers from diverse disciplines working on ultrafast science and attosecond technologies. It is currently Sweden's largest research environment dedicated to the study of ultrafast dynamics of matter and is part of Lund Laser Centre (LLC), which is connected to Laserlab Sweden and Laserlab-Europe. LASC hosts state-of-the-art attosecond light sources, including intense extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) pulses (~μJ pulse energy at 100 Hz), tunable XUV pulses operating at 3 kHz, and ultrashort pulses with high repetition rates up to 200 kHz. These capabilities enable cutting-edge investigations of electron dynamics in atoms, molecules, and solid-state systems.
As a doctoral student, you are both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University.
As a doctoral student, you will be trained in a scientific approach. In short, you will be trained to think critically and analytically, to solve problems independently using the right methods, and to develop an awareness of research ethics. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on projects, to develop your leadership and pedagogical skills. Throughout your studies, you will be guided by supervisors. Doctoral studies end with a thesis and a doctoral degree.

Subject and Project Description
The project is part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral network: Trilogy: Ultrafast Chirality for Life and Technology, and will include a secondment at another university or in industry for a few months.
You will primarily devote yourself to your doctoral education, which mainly consists of writing a doctoral thesis.
This position aims at generating structured light carrying spin and angular orbital momentum to imprint chirality in matter. The characterization will employ laser-assisted photoionization and three-dimensional electron detection. Basic work will be done in collaboration with LASC.
In addition to studies, a maximum of 20% of working time may be spent on teaching and other departmental work.
To be eligible for admission and employment as a doctoral student, you must fulfill the requirements below.
A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programs if the applicant:
The project is funded by a Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral network, and to be eligible for this position, candidates should not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before recruitment.
A person meets the specific admission requirements for third cycle studies in Physics if the applicant has:
The special qualification may also have been obtained through other equivalent education, which is assessed on a case-by-case basis. In order to enable interdisciplinary initiatives and significant in-depth studies in certain areas, qualifications other than the applicant's subject-specific competence in Physics may be taken into account.
In order to complete the doctoral programme in question, the following are also required:
The selection of eligible applicants will be made taking into account the ability to benefit from the training based on the following criteria:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, and how the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.
Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave, and an advantageous occupational pension scheme.
The employment is a fixed-term employment at full time, starting as agreed. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years. In the case of teaching and other departmental duties, the employment is extended accordingly. Doctoral studentships are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), chapter 5, 1-7 §§.
The application should be written in English and you must attach to your application:
