Looking for motivated Postdoc, PhD, and Master student candidates to work with me on discoveries all around the metabolic command center of our cells: The lysosome!
Lysosomal lipid pathways are of the highest significance for rare genetic childhood dementias (e.g. Batten’s disease) but also age-related neurodegeneration, aging, or metabolic disorders. We will use advanced imaging techniques, omics approaches, drug screening, and biochemistry to uncover lysosomal lipid regulation pathways and test their implications in neurodegeneration-relevant cellular models, specifically in microglia cells. Hyperactivation of microglia cells and the resulting chronic neuroinflammation emerged as a hallmark of many neurodegenerative disorders and lysosomal lipid pathways are crucial for activation of proinflammatory pathways.
In the Ebner lab we will investigate mechanisms of lysosomal lipid logistics in
– membrane repair
– membrane biogenesis
– lipid and metabolite export
– and how all that affects pro-inflammatory pathways in microglia
The lab is part of the Institute of Molecular Biochemistry in the beautiful and spacious Biocenter Innsbruck hosting a thriving cell biology and membrane trafficking community.
We are seeking to create an inspirational, friendly, supportive, collaborative, and inclusive lab environment!
