UCL Biological Services provides specialist facilities, technical expertise and regulatory framework that enable researchers across the university to carry out high quality, ethically responsible and legally compliant animal research. By working closely with scientists, Named Persons, technical teams and senior operational leaders, Biological Services underpins a wide range of biomedical and life science research activity.
Within this environment, the Facility Hub Manager contributes to a leadership role, ensuring the smooth running, resilience and compliance of the research facility. The post holder supports strategic planning, staff development, welfare oversight and operational coordination. Through this supportive and collaborative position, the Facility Hub Manager helps maintain high standards, strengthen capability across hubs and ensures UCL's research platforms operate responsibly, efficiently and in alignment with the university's broader research priorities.
The Facility Hub Manager holds a senior leadership role within UCL Biological Services, supporting the effective operation, future development and long-term resilience of a multi-species research facility. Working in close partnership with the Assistant Director for Research Delivery and Assistant Director for Operations, the post holder plays a key role in shaping operational strategy, supporting research technology platforms and ensuring that services align with UCL's wider research priorities.
The role provides high-level oversight of animal welfare, ethics, biosecurity, legislative compliance and health and safety governance, ensuring the facility operates to the highest professional and regulatory standards. A core element of the role is the training, mentoring and development of technical staff across Biological Services, building capability, consistency and excellence across all hubs. The post holder also contributes expert advice to researchers and ethical review processes, supports the planning and delivery of complex research studies and drives continuous improvement to enhance service quality, efficiency and scientific outcomes.
