Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in Dermatology and Allergology

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki is seeking ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR. The field of the position is Dermatology and Allergology and the language of instruction is Finnish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor, depending on the candidates' merits and career stage.

Common selection criteria of the Faculty of Medicine Assistant / associate professor An appointee to the position of assistant/associate professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline. When considering applicants' qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience.

Professor An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline. When considering the applicant's qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant's participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant's activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant's ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application period.

Duties The Assistant professor / Associate professor / Professor is responsible for under- and postgraduate education as well as continuing education in the field of Dermatology, Allergology and Venereology, as well as planning, development and implementation of specialist training in the field. The assistant / associate / professor participates in teaching in practical small groups and in lecture-based teaching. The duties also include carrying out and supervising scientific research, following developments in research in the relevant field and participating in societal interaction as well as national and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the professor's duties include other tasks assigned by the Faculty. Practical experience can be demonstrated with a specialist degree or qualification as a licensed specialist in the field of Dermatology and Allergology or Dermatology and Venereology. The appointee and HUS Helsinki University Hospital may negotiate over a suitable secondary position. Trial period of six months will be applied.

Requirements for language skills Holders of teaching and research positions at Finnish universities must be proficient in the language of teaching, either Finnish or Swedish.

Salary The salary for the position is determined according to the university's salary system for teaching and research personnel, based on the level of responsibility. The level for the assistant professor/associate professor is 7, and for the professor 8-10. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
