PhD Student / Postdoctoral Fellow

Postdoc and PhD opportunities in Biodiversity Conservation Full-time

Position Overview

We are recruiting 1-2 postdoctoral research fellows in Biodiversity Conservation/Ecological Restoration. Research topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Impacts of human activities on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
  2. Effectiveness of biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration strategies.
  3. Human-wildlife interactions, including human-wildlife conflicts and the contributions of wildlife to human well-being.

 

Applicants should apply for the Fudan University Postdoctoral Fellowship (3 years, ~USD 70,000/year) or the Shanghai Postdoctoral Fellowship (2 years, ~USD 52,000/year).

 

About you

  1. A PhD (completed or near completion) in Conservation Science, Geography, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.
  2. Typically under 35 years of age.
  3. Demonstrated research capability through publications in high-quality journals.
  4. Proficiency in relevant programming languages or tools (e.g. Python, R, JavaScript, GIS, Google Earth Engine).
  5. Experience in large ecological data analysis and/or Google Earth Engine is highly desirable.

About Mentor

Dr. Deqiang Ma is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Fudan University. He received his PhD from The University of Queensland (Australia) in 2022 and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan (USA) from 2022 to 2024. He has published multiple papers as first or corresponding author in leading journals, including Nature Ecology & Evolution, Science Advances, and Journal of Applied Ecology.
