We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with research laboratory experience, who enjoys working as part of a busy team and is committed to providing a high-quality histology service to our users. The successful candidate must have experience of performing microtomy and cryotomy of human or animal samples. They will also need great attention to detail and experience in managing data using spreadsheets and databases. Excellent communication and organisation skills are required.
This role will provide an opportunity to gain valuable laboratory management experience and interact with a wide range of researchers (students, post-docs, clinicians and basic scientists) while supporting research projects across UCL. The post-holder will work closely with the Pathology TTP Manager in delivering histology services and collaborate closely with the UCL/UCLH Biobank for Health and Disease and the UCL/UCLH Cancer Biomarker Centre. This vacancy would particularly suit candidates aiming to pursue a career in biomedical sciences or translational research and who enjoy getting involved in all aspects of laboratory operations. Full training will be provided.
Successful candidates must have a BSc in Biomedical Science or a related subject, experience working in a research laboratory, and experience providing high-quality customer service. Substantial experience in performing and optimising microtomy and cryotomy is essential for the role, as is knowing your key stakeholders and keeping them informed, as well as the ability to work proactively to fulfil needs, flag issues, and seek feedback on your work. An MSc in Biomedical Science or a related subject, practical experience of optimising immunohistochemistry, and experience of preparing tissue microarrays (TMAs) are desirable but not essential.
