Human Imaging Manager

The Human Imaging Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality MRI, CT and PET CT imaging services to support human and pre-clinical research conducted within the Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI).

In this position you will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-standard imaging practices; supporting research teams; and contributing to the ongoing development of advanced imaging methodologies. You will require a high level of technical expertise, motivation, flexibility and autonomy. In addition to strong communication skills, and a commitment to excellence in research imaging and participant care. You will also act as second in charge to the Senior Manager – Human Imaging

The role operates on a fortnightly schedule, with working days in Week 1 on Monday through Thursday and in Week 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Key responsibilities will include:

Imaging Service Delivery

• Perform MRI, CT and PET CT scans for research and clinical-research participants, following established protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality imaging outcomes.
• Ensure efficient processing, organisation, and secure storage of research imaging data in accordance with Facility and University policies.
• Adhere to all imaging Facility standards, operating procedures, and regulatory guidelines to maintain exemplary imaging quality and participant care.
• Support the delivery of the Magnetic Resonance Technology Master's program.

Leadership

• Work with Senior Manager to plan and manage daily Radiographer workforce requirements and productivity
• Demonstrate ability to lead and supervise junior team members and mentor Radiographers and imaging researchers and provide guidance across the image facilities.
• Ability to allocate workloads, managing priorities and contribute to rostering and operational decisions
• Foster a collaborative and professional team culture that supports high-quality imaging, research outcomes, and safe work practices.
• Support staff performance and development through day-to-day supervision, feedback, and coaching

Radiation Safety, Ethics & Compliance

• Conduct and document mandatory MRI and radiation safety screening for participants, staff, students, and visitors entering the imaging environment.
• Support the maintenance of radiation safety documentation and standard operating procedures, in collaboration with senior imaging staff and Radiation Safety Officer.
• Participate in laboratory safety audits and compliance activities as directed.
• Escalate safety concerns, incidents, or non-compliance issues to senior staff in accordance with Facility governance processes.

Technical Expertise & Protocol Management

• Maintain current knowledge of established, emerging, and experimental imaging techniques utilised at CAI.
• Support the setup, testing, and optimisation of imaging protocols for new and ongoing research projects.
• Assist in troubleshooting imaging-related issues, including equipment faults, data quality problems, and workflow inefficiencies.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with researchers, clinicians, research fellows, and technical staff to ensure research imaging needs are met.
• Provide clear, professional communication to foster effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Professional Development & Engagement

• Participate in imaging-related education sessions, Facility meetings, and professional development activities.
• Attend local, national, or international conferences as required to maintain and extend professional expertise.
• Contribute to training activities for students, other radiographers, and researchers where appropriate.

Other Duties

• Perform additional duties as directed by the Chief Radiographer, Facility Manager, or Centre leadership, consistent with the role's classification and scope.

Completion of a master's degree or equivalent in Medical Imaging, Registration with the AHPRA Medical Radiation Practice Board as Diagnostic Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Scientist Queensland Radiation user Licence Demonstrating a high level of skills and expertise to support diagnostic imaging. Skills in research imaging which encompasses CT, MR and Ultrasound would be favourable. Experience in a clinical and/or research role, with 5–7 years management experience in clinical MRI and/or CT. Strong analytical and decision-making skills sufficient to assess a wide range of problems and develop/implement appropriate solutions. High level of computer proficiency, including competency in working with personal computers using a variety of enquiries, spreadsheet, data transfer and storage, database, word processing, e-mail and internet software. Ability to provide advice on MR and CT protocols, safety of participants/visitors. Demonstrate high level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines. Demonstrate ability to establish co-operative working relations with staff across variety of professional organisations

Experience working in a clinical environment. Experience in PET/CT. Previous experience using Siemens Operating Systems Experience in setting up and handling anaesthetic and patient monitoring equipment.
