The applicant(s) must hold a BSc or MSc in biochemistry, cell biology or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, and be eligible to work in Canada. The individual(s) will work to uncover mechanisms of cellular transformation and metastasis and identify novel targets for drug discovery. Of particular interest are networks transmitting signals to/from RAS GTPases, and related cancer-initiating pathways. Study of these problems will entail a multidisciplinary approach via application of cutting-edge experimental methods in structural biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, and cell biology. The goal is a comprehensive mechanistic understanding of protein function and its resultant impact on biology, with the possibility to employ the drug discovery capabilities of IRIC. The successful applicant must have a passion to learn either (or all of) protein NMR spectroscopy, solving protein structures by X-Ray crystallography or cryo-EM and a strong desire to integrate this with biological and other biophysical data. The position is fully funded, and applications are invited from all qualified candidates including racialized persons/visible minorities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations or gender identities, and others. The application package must include a CV, cover letter and a detailed description of the applicant(s) experience working in a research laboratory (can include 4th year research projects or summer internships). Applications that do not include each of these elements will not be considered. Laboratory website: https://matt19smith.wixsite.com/iric
