This position has a term length of 12 months.

Location – This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Enrolment Research, Analytics and Insights, the Junior Analyst plays an integral role by providing critical analysis and interpretation of enrolment data for strategic and operational planning within the Office of the Registrar (RO) at the University of Alberta.

The Junior Analyst will be one of the key sources to work on and support complex enrolment data-relevant projects under the U of A's key strategies, such as the Integrated Enrolment Growth Plan (IEGP). This includes but may not be limited to (1) enrolment forecasting at various levels, (2) forecasting visualization and dashboarding, (3) predictive analytics supporting, and (4) supporting ad hoc research requests that may be either qualitative or quantitative in nature. The Junior Analyst is expected to utilize their strong technical, analytical, coordination, and communication skills and will be closely guided and supported by the team.

Responsibilities

• Carefully read, study, and understand the U of A's Integrated Enrolment Growth Plan and related material and products.
• Conduct course-level demand analysis for various faculties, and develop scripts to automate the process.
• Support the development, building, implementation, maintenance and refinement of predictive analytics models, topics include but may not be limited to: yielding probability, retention factors, enrolment headcounts, etc.
• Provide support to other team functions, topics include but may not be limited to: data requests, enrolment reporting, SQL queries, market scans, qualitative studies, etc.
• Creates detailed reports, visualizations, and dashboards using tools like Tableau and prepares and delivers presentations to stakeholders on data-related topics.
• Conduct consultations to gather insight on the needs of the RO and University community and ensure that the studies and reports meet those needs.
• Engage internal staff in understanding the value contained within the University's data.
• Collaborating with team members, other units at the Office of the Registrar, and key stakeholders to understand business contexts, which are critical to deliver high-quality data and analytical products.
• Keep current on the methods and tools available within and external to our Enrolment Management and Reporting systems and recommend appropriate approaches and tools.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Sciences, or a related field with a strong focus on quantitative skills.
• Trackable experience in completing quantitative data/research projects in either a professional or academic environment.
• Expertise in using statistical software such as Python, R, SAS, Tableau, SQL, etc.
• Superior ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and be able to communicate complex data concepts through plain language.
• Strong ability to analyze data, suggest recommendations, and present results.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent time management in balancing demands in a way that will ensure access to critical data, reports, and/or analysis within strategic time limits.
