Junior Specialist position is open for the Clelland Lab at the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The goal of the Clelland lab is to develop novel therapies for neurodegenerative diseases including dementias and ALS. Projects are focused on basic mechanisms of disease and CRISPR gene editing in iPSCs, and iPSC-derived neurons, astrocytes and microglia. We work with our close collaborators at the UC Berkeley Innovative Genomics Institute. An exceptional candidate will design their own experiments, lead an aspect of a larger project independently, develop new ideas, be familiar with the literature, present at lab meetings, and participate in procurement of funds, where appropriate. Additionally, the specialist will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day lab operations, perform general lab duties and be a positive lab citizen. Required Qualifications: • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank. • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written). • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities. • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team. • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines. • Wet lab experience of at least 2 years • Must have experience with iPSC cell modeling or CRISPR gene editing or advanced molecular biology • Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment. • Candidate's CV must state qualifications or if pending upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications: • A background or research in bioinformatics or use of bioinformatic tools
Start dates flexible until the position is filled. We prefer a 2-year commitment.
