Job Title: Director, Cancer Genomics & Molecular Medicine – Early‑Career Leadership Track

Location: Taipei, Taiwan – Koo Foundation Sun Yat-Sen Cancer Center (KFSYSCC)

Founded in 1990 as the first cancer‑only institution in Taiwan, KFSYSCC treats thousands of new oncology patients a year and has earned national recognition for outcome‑driven, multidisciplinary care. Over three decades we have built one of Asia’s most comprehensive research ecosystems: a biobank holding more than 30,000 tumor specimens (13 organ groups) plus more than 3,900 matched normal tissues, an Illumina NextSeq 2000 sequencer, and disease-focused teams that integrate surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, data scientists and engineers in a single decision loop. A Molecular Medicine Building is being planned that will co‑locate sequencing, single‑cell and spatial‑omics platforms, GMP‑ready cell‑processing suites, and open collaboration lofts—creating the physical and cultural space for the next era of precision oncology.

The Opportunity:

This position lets a rising scientist step directly into institution‑wide influence. During your first 12 months you will work with senior executives, architects, and external advisors to finalize the five‑year Genomics & Molecular Medicine roadmap and set functional requirements for the new building. You will inherit the operational NextSeq 2000 platform, a stocked TSO-500 workflow and a biobank pipeline that accrues ~800 new tumor samples each year, giving you immediate data flow and reagent budget. A protected operating budget, dedicated lab space and first call on capital purchases free you to focus on vision, science and talent rather than bureaucracy. By year three you will be expected to have launched multiple cross-disciplinary projects, secured external funding, integrated multi-omic decision support into routine tumor-board practice and shepherded TAF LDT certification for the TSO-500 assay with MOHW submission targeted for 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic leadership: Co‑author and drive a five‑year plan linking discovery science, clinical genomics, digital pathology and data science; align milestones with hospital strategy and national cancer policy.
• Regulatory leadership: Drive Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) validation and Ministry of Health & Welfare approval for laboratory-developed NGS tests, starting with TSO-500.
• Program building: Recruit, mentor and evaluate principal investigators, staff scientists, bioinformaticians and technologists; foster a transparent, high‑trust culture that prizes innovation and reproducibility.
• Clinical integration: Design pipelines that feed genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data into tumor boards and prospective clinical trials, leveraging structured cancer-pathology reports to shorten the bench-to-bedside loop in real time.
• Core‑facility stewardship: Operate, optimize and strategically expand a comprehensive genomics core equipped with an Illumina NextSeq 2000, an Affymetrix GeneChip system and a Thermo Fisher QuantStudio Absolute Q digital-PCR platform, while charting the roadmap for future long-read, single-cell and spatial-omics technologies.
• Infrastructure design: Lead (with the hospital architect) a series of multidisciplinary design workshops for the new Molecular Medicine Building, translating scientific and clinical workflows into lab layouts, IT infrastructure, and regulatory‑ready specifications, then present final recommendations to the CEO and board.
• External engagement: Represent KFSYSCC in international consortia, industry partnerships and conferences; secure multi‑year funding from competitive grants, philanthropy and strategic partners.
• Performance management: Establish success metrics (publications, assays deployed, grants, patient‑care impact) and deliver quarterly progress reviews to hospital leadership.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated leadership in building and inspiring multidisciplinary genomics teams, with evidence of mentoring, budget stewardship, and program-level decision-making authority.
• PhD, MD or MD/PhD plus 4–7 years of post‑training experience that demonstrates inventive genomics research, senior‑ or corresponding‑author publications, and early evidence of team leadership.
• Proven expertise in Illumina‑based NGS workflows and cancer‑genomics data analysis; enthusiasm for scaling into single‑cell, long‑read or spatial platforms.
• Track record of successful grant capture, industry collaboration or technology‑transfer activity.
• Strategic thinker with the communication skills to align clinicians, engineers, policymakers and philanthropists around a shared vision.
• Fluent English (working language of the research program); willingness to learn Mandarin encouraged.
• Eligibility for Taiwanese work authorization (our relocation team will guide visa and residency processes).
