The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a laboratory technician within neuromuscular research as per 1 April 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term, full-time position for 36 months and is tied to the NNF Distinguished Innovator project and the project-specific, time-limited tasks associated with it.
Research at The Department of Biomedicine aims to expand knowledge in diverse areas of biomedicine including infection and inflammation, membranes, neuroscience and personalized medicine. Neuromuscular physiology and neuromuscular diseases are some of the research areas at The Department and the current position is anchored in a laboratory lead by Associate Professor Thomas Holm Pedersen. The focus of the laboratory is neuromuscular disease and underlying disease mechanism. In particular, the work in the Pedersen lab focusses on ion channels and their role in several neuromuscular diseases characterized by abnormal muscle excitability. Experimentally, the work involves electrophysiology, imaging, muscle contractions, and molecular studies of ion channels and cellular signaling using a combination of in vitro and in vivo assays.
The candidate will be responsible for the daily operations in the laboratory and for conducting experiments. The candidate will also be involved in guiding and training students. The Pedersen laboratory collaborates closely with the pharmaceutical industry having a clear ambition and possibility to bridge basic science to novel treatment concepts for patients living with neuromuscular disease.
Job responsibilities as laboratory technician include:
You will report to the Associate Professor Thomas Holm Pedersen. Your competences include a relevant background within e.g. biomedical science or neuromuscular research and experience with practical laboratory work. You are experienced in working in a research laboratory environment and with standard laboratory procedures. You work in a structured and responsible manner and can collaborate closely with researchers and technical staff. Previous experience with animal work and laboratory administration as well as systems such as IndFak will be considered an advantage. As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. You will be part of the on-call scheme.
