The Schrank Laboratory at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is looking for a creative and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. We are a friendly, multicultural lab focused on tackling some of the most pressing challenges in cancer therapy.
Our lab investigates how genome instability, particularly in the form of extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA), allows tumors to evolve, resist treatment, and evade the immune system. We aim to understand these fundamental mechanisms and then use that knowledge to develop new therapeutic strategies.
As a postdoctoral fellow in our lab, you will lead a research project at the exciting intersection of DNA repair, cancer immunology, and translational medicine. Our primary goal is to empower our postdocs to become independent scientific leaders. You will have dedicated mentorship from Dr. Benjamin Schrank and will receive full support in developing your own ideas. We expect this to be a launching pad for your career; our goal is for you to publish high-impact work and move on to your desired position in academia or industry.
We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D. in a relevant field (immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology, etc.) who is driven by curiosity and a desire to make a difference. The ideal candidate has:
A strong foundation in cancer biology and molecular biology.
A collaborative spirit and a proactive, get-things-done mindset.
Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, biochemistry, and animal models is a significant plus.
An interest in thinking about science from a translational perspective to address real clinical needs.
You’ll be working at the #1 cancer center in the US, with access to state-of-the-art resources and a deeply collaborative scientific community. MD Anderson is home to pioneers like Nobel Laureate Dr. Jim Allison, and the institution fosters a rich environment for learning and discovery.
Beyond the lab, Houston offers a fantastic quality of life. It’s the nation’s most diverse city with a world-renowned food scene. The cost of living is far more affordable than other major research hubs, and the city is a great place to build a life with plenty of cultural events and two major international airports.
