Role Overview
Mercor is seeking Physics PhDs to join a premier collaboration with one of the world’s leading AI research labs. In this role, you will contribute your subject matter expertise to the development and refinement of state-of-the-art large language models. You’ll help design, review, and evaluate challenging physics problems and high-quality data that inform the next generation of AI capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Create and assess complex problems in physics across various subdomains such as classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, statistical physics, and relativity
Evaluate AI-generated responses for conceptual accuracy, mathematical rigor, and domain relevance
Provide clear written feedback on physics problem sets and solutions
Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and engineers to iterate and improve model performance
Ensure scientific accuracy and academic precision in all physics content used to train or evaluate AI systems
Ideal Qualifications
PhD in Physics from a US university
Undergraduate degree from an institution in the US, UK, or Canada
Deep subject-matter expertise across core areas of physics
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
Prior teaching, research, or publication experience is a plus
Project Timeline
Start Date: Immediately
Duration: Minimum of 1–2 months
Commitment: Part-time, ~20 hours/week with potential to extend to 40 hours/week
Schedule: Fully remote and asynchronous – flexible working hours
