STEM PhDs – Chemistry Part-time NEW
Mercor is seeking Chemistry PhDs and exceptional Master’s graduates to help shape the next wave of frontier large language models at a top AI lab. In this role, you’ll design, solve, and rigorously review high-quality, graduate-level problems rooted in real-world chemistry scenarios. Your work will directly inform model capabilities, evaluation rigor, and safety — turning deep academic expertise into practical benchmarks and training signals.
You will collaborate asynchronously with a global team of experts. Day-to-day, you’ll (1) create novel, challenging prompts with clear acceptance criteria; (2) produce gold-standard solutions (proofs, derivations, working code, etc.); (3) build precise grading rubrics that separate surface-level answers from correct reasoning; and (4) review AI outputs for accuracy and robustness.
This role is ideal for researchers who enjoy transforming theory into practice while grounding problems in real-world trade-offs (accuracy, reproducibility, scalability). Success means crisp, unambiguous rubrics, high-quality annotations, and datasets that push models beyond rote memorization.
Workload is 10–20 hours/week, fully remote, with flexible hours and weekly payouts via Stripe Connect. Applicants should demonstrate excellent English communication, strong attention to detail, and comfort working asynchronously.
