Postdoctoral position to study B cell and antibody response in tuberculosis (TB) available at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School, Newark. The program seeks to characterize the B cell and antibody response that develops during the various infection and disease states of TB, using both mouse models and human specimens. The research will clone B cell receptors from memory B cells in the peripheral blood of subjects with various tuberculous manifestations using single cell technology. Data analysis will use computational approach including machine learning to identify cloned monoclonal antibodies unique to specific infection and disease outcomes and to test their functions using in vitro and in vivo TB models. The goal of this work is to identify monoclonal antibodies that differentially regulate host response to M. tuberculosis. In addition, experimental murine tuberculosis models will be used to examine the roles of B cells in regulating the granulomatous inflammatory response, specifically, via the ability of B cells to present antigens and to produce proinflammatory and inflammatory cytokines. These latter studies will use mouse TB models and human lung tissues to characterize the inflammation-regulatory role of B cells, using multiplex immunofluorescence-based imaging, spatial transcriptomics, in conjunction with single cell technology. Experiences in B cell and humoral immune responses, TB animal modeling, BSL3 experimentation, and human cellular immunology preferred but not required. Please send response including CV to John Chan, MD to the application email.
