These posts offer an exciting opportunity to join a research group lead by Professor Mariya Moosajee focused on understanding ocular development and genetic diseases of the eye. The group uses zebrafish and cell models, such as iPSC-derived retinal organoids, to further our understanding of how genes affect eye formation and retinal function. The research involves generating and characterising disease models, and testing new potential therapies, which can be translated back to patients in the future. This post will be based in the Institute of Ophthalmology at the University College London.
We are looking to appoint two part-time Research Assistants at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London, to join the Moosajee Laboratory. Postholders will contribute to our comprehension of visual function impairments in CRB1-retinopathy and Stargardt's disease, thereby enhancing the prognosis and the application of therapeutics for inherited retinal diseases. Successful applicants will be responsible for recruiting patients from Moorfields Eye Hospital, facilitating the collection of data, conducting functional testing, interpreting and summarising the results, and writing up the findings.
Duration: The funding for the post is available until 31.01.2027
Hours: 0.5FTE (18.25hrs per week)
Salary: UCL Grade 6b (£39,148 – £41,833 per annum, including London Allowance) pro rata for part time employees
A BSc or equivalent degree (2.1 or above; or equivalent EU/overseas degree) in optometry, orthoptics, biology or life sciences is essential. Candidates must possess relevant experience in common ocular genetic conditions and the implementation of visual function tests. Additionally, applicants should have experience working in a clinical environment, preferably in the field of ophthalmology or vision science. Experience in designing, developing, and reviewing experimental studies and data collection is also highly desirable. Experience in data analysis using appropriate software tools is also advisable.
