Polysomnographic Technician – Neurology Full-time

Polysomnography Technician

Technician works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This individual will function under general medical supervision of a sleep technologist and/or the medical director or designee, to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The application of recording devices to the patient, cleaning/sterilization of equipment and monitoring of polysomnograms are essential duties of the technician. In addition, the technician must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and respond with the appropriate inventions to ensure safety.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Sets up, calibrates and monitors recording equipment necessary for PSG, MSLT, MAD, INSPIRE, and PAP Titration to ensure artifact free tracings.
• Recognizes and records clinical and physiological relevant events.
• Detects and corrects equipment malfunctions.
• Interprets polysomnogram data.
• Interviews patients to obtain sleep history.
• Handles phone calls; answers questions for patients and physicians.
• Prepares for patients in high-risk situations, as with cardiac or pulmonary problems.
• Aids in the training of new trainees.
• Supervises and coordinates activities of other outpatients.
• Checks inventories and order supplies as needed.
• Assists with general maintenance and organization of the lab area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.

Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) – American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) – Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), A-STEP – Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation – American Heart Association, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation – American Red Cross, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation – American Trauma Event Management

Required Qualifications:

• Successful completion of ASTEP or equivalent sleep technology program associated with a state licensed or nationally accredited educational facility OR minimum of six months experience as sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies OR holds Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent.

Salary Range

$20.57 – $30.84 / Hourly. The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
