At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.
The Research Unit Analytical Pathology at Helmholtz Munich develops and implements state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based methods for the spatially resolved analysis of biological systems. A focus lies on imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) to investigate systemic metabolic processes, hormone distributions, and exogenous environmental chemicals such as endocrine disrupting compounds across tissues and organs. The group combines methodological innovation with translational biomedical research, providing a scientifically challenging environment for independently conducting postdoctoral research.
This part-time Postdoctoral position (f/m/x) is designed to focus on clearly defined core research activities within the project. It offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact research in a flexible working model, allowing for combination with other academic, clinical, or personal commitments.
Plan and perform imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) experiments to study metabolic and hormonal processes in biological tissues
Develop and optimize spatial metabolomics methods, including sample preparation and analytical workflows
Analyze and integrate complex datasets using statistical and computational approaches (e.g. Python, R)
Interpret results in the context of systemic metabolism and environmental exposures, and derive new research hypotheses
Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences
(Optional) Contribute to the supervision of students and collaborate within an interdisciplinary research team
Note on part-time position This is a 50% position with a strong focus on the core research tasks outlined above, enabling concentrated scientific work within a clearly defined scope.
Master or PhD or equivalent degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, or a related field
Experience in mass spectrometry, metabolomics, or related analytical techniques
Strong data analysis skills and interest in integrative, systems-level approaches
Ability to work independently and drive research projects forward
Good communication skills in English or German
Desirable qualifications
Experience with imaging mass spectrometry or spatial omics
Programming skills (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB)
Experience with metabolite or hormone analysis, or environmental exposure research
Experience in supervising students or contributing to collaborative projects
Career Development: Postdoc program, scientific training & career center with tailored offers
Scientific Resources: State-of-the-art infrastructure and Core Facilities
Recreation: 30 days annual leave, flexi days, plus public holidays
International Staff Service: Support with the relocation and integration process in Germany
