We are seeking applicants for a 2-year postdoc in Ultrafast X-ray Probes of Quantum Materials to join us at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
The position is for 2 years and is available from August 1st or as soon as possible hereafter. There is the possibility of extension for up to more two years.
We are looking for a candidate to lead our X-FEL and synchrotron-based experiments to study the dynamics of light-induced phase transitions on atomic and nanoscopic length-scales driven by optical and phononic excitation. The focus will be on understanding how different excitation methods generate polarons and correlated materials in the cuprates and other quantum materials, building on our recent results in the vanadium dioxide (see Johnson et al. Nature Physics 20, 970 (2024)). You will also work on expanding our coherent imaging methodology to look at dynamics and phase switching in materials at the nanoscale (Johnson et al. Nature Physics 19, 215 (2023)). Work at these facilities will be combined with research in our state of the art femtosecond laser labs.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics or Chemistry or related field. The applicant should have a strong background in either ultrafast physics or quantum materials. Ideally with significant experience working at XFEL or synchrotron, or advanced ultrafast laser experiments. Experience with phase retrieval algorithms, clean room use and e-beam lithography are beneficial. The candidate will be expected to participate at international user facilities and thus will be expected to travel.
The place of work is Ny Munkegade 120, 8000 Aarhus C.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
