Postdoc in GPCR single molecule microscopy Part-time

Postdoctoral Position Available

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc for a 2.5 years position to commence 1/5 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project is part of a larger interdisciplinary grant called 'Uncovering the Spatiotemporal Organization of the Adhesion GPCR ADGRL3 and Its Trans Synaptic Signalling Partners at the Single Molecule Level' financed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

You will join the Mathiasen Group in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, in the research unit for GPCR pharmacology.

The Mathiasen group is one of multiple groups in the unit studying G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). We offer a dynamic and social work environment, where students at all levels (BSc, MSc, and PhD), postdocs, technicians and scientists from various cultures work together on a variety of interdisciplinary projects, and you will engage and collaborate with several colleagues in the group and theme.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI) is an interdisciplinary department with research groups focused on topics spanning from basic to translational science. Information on the department can be found at BMI.

The Project

The transmembrane adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) take part in a myriad of physiological processes and are involved in many pathologies. This project aims to investigate the role of adhesion GPCR ligand binding. The project will include the establishment of novel assays for the detection of ligand complex formation at the subcellular level, using a combination of single molecule fluorescence microscopy and live cell GPCR signalling assays. The project will go deep to understand which mechanisms are at play if and how adhesion GPCR receptors respond to ligand binding of various kinds. A close collaboration with researchers from the Neils Bohr Institute will ensure access to the needed crossdisciplinarity expertise and equipment.

Profile We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist, within the field(s) of Biophysics, Nanoscience, Molecular or Cell Biology, Biochemistry or alike, with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• You have obtained PhD degree or equivalent
• You are experienced in TIRF microscopy or other relevant types of fluorescence imaging
• You are experienced in investigating GPCR receptor function
• You are experienced in working with mammalian cell culture
• You are experienced in working with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g. used for cloning)
• You have good communication skills and ability to work in teams with e.g. MSc and PhD students
• You have excellent English skills both written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Experience with single molecule microscopy techniques
• Experience with image analysis procedures for quantitative microscopy
• Experience with single particle tracking data analysis packages
• Experience with programming (MATLAB/Phyton)
• Experience using bioinformatics software e.g SnapGene or Geneious Prime

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2.5 years. The starting date is May 1st 2026 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 39,200 DKK/approx. 5,200 EUR (November 2025-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
