This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research Title: Exoskeleton, Legged and Humanoid Robots, and Human-Robot Interaction Research
The work will entail: To support the National Institute of Standards and Technology's effort to develop standard test methods for exoskeletons, legged robots, and human-robot interaction standards.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Qualifications:
– Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
– Experience in: Robotics and automation, system dynamics, linear and non-linear control systems, adaptive control, optimal control, whole-body control, human-robot interaction, powered and passive exoskeletons, legged robots, machine learning, AI applications, reinforcement learning, control tuning and implementation, and motion planning.
– Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Matlab, Python, C/C++
– Proficiency in ROS, Latex, and 3D CAD

Salary Range: $80,000-$85,000 a year
