Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46 000 students and 8 500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
The postdoctoral fellow will join the dynamic Regenerative Immunology laboratory. The Regenerative Immunology lab is currently composed of three PhD students, three postdoctoral fellows, one MS student, and one animal technician. The lab resides within the Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy (MMGT) at the Biomedical Centre (BMC). MMGT houses labs with a variety of complementary expertise in stem cell biology and gene editing. More information on the lab can be found at leighnd.github.io.
Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme.
Work duties and areas of responsibility: You will have responsibility to lead and manage a project focused on understanding the relationship between regenerative and cancer biology. This will require working with newts (Pleurodeles waltl). Specifically, you will generate transgenic newts using CRISPR/Cas technologies and develop cutting edge conditional depletion tools. This work will be aimed at uncovering the role of cell cycle regulators in regeneration, cancer, and how regenerative tissue manages to resist tumorigenic transformation. You will be responsible of synthesizing results into compelling figures, making and delivering oral presentations, writing manuscripts, and mentoring students. You will be expected to learn basic R or python to generate plots and analyze data.
Qualifications: Requirements for employment are: You have deep knowledge of regenerative biology including dedifferentiation. You have experience working with newts or other salamander species. You have documented expertise in generating transgenic animal lines using CRISPR, Tol2, or similar technologies. You have a PhD degree in regenerative biology, cancer biology, molecular biology or similar. You have excellent written and spoken English. Additional qualifications for the position are: You have a cursory understanding of cell cycle. You have demonstrated ability to independently lead a project. You have worked with aquatic species. You have previously studied cancer biology. You are compatible with existing personnel in the group.
Further information: The position is a fixed-term, full-time appointment for two years, with a possible extension of up to one additional year. The intended start date is 1 June 2026, or as agreed.
Eligibility: To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, the applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent, in a subject relevant to the position (i.e., regenerative biology, molecular biology, tumor biology, or a related field). The degree must have been awarded no more than three years before the date of the employment decision. Exceptions may be made if there are special circumstances.
How to apply: Applications are to be submitted via the University's recruitment system. The application should include: PhD diploma, CV, with list of publications, Personal letter, stating the reasons why the project suits the applicant (maximum one page), References (2)
