We are eagerly seeking two Postdoctoral Research Fellows with expertise in cancer research and immunology to join the Wainwright laboratory at the Frazer Institute. We are specifically looking for researchers who have a passion for discovery research and translating that research into clinical applications. Work with us to create real change, and we'll help you get the best start to your academic career at one of Australia's leading universities!
The Wainwright laboratory focuses on using genomic, genetic and cell biology approaches to understand the causes of pediatric brain cancers and develop new therapies. With the recent establishment of an mRNA vaccine trial to treat pediatric brain cancer by our laboratory and colleagues we continue to generate new knowledge to improve this particular therapeutic approach. These positions present an exciting opportunity for early career researchers to discover and apply new treatment paradigms.
Key responsibilities include:
Research: Energetically drive research projects, support applications for competitive research funding, publish in reputable journals and utilize best practice research methodologies.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Assist with student supervision and provide mentorship, performance feedback and training to research support staff.
Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership through collaborative participation, supporting team operations and contributing to internal service roles.
These are research focused positions. Further information can be found by viewing UQ's Criteria for Academic Performance.
Our ideal candidates will possess:
Completion or near completion of a PhD in molecular cell biology, bioinformatics or genomics.
An emerging profile in research in immunology and cancer biology.
A broad set of molecular biology skills. Some bioinformatics training would be an advantage as would sophisticated flow cytometry experience and tissue culture/animal models.
Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks including verification of the right to work in Australia (employer-sponsored work rights are not available for these appointments). This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
With a shared goal to create lasting and positive change for communities across the world, at UQ you will be challenged to do your best work, inspired by colleagues from across UQ's diverse community, and rewarded for your contributions, expertise and the unique experiences you bring.
The greater benefits of joining the UQ community are broad: from being part of a Group of Eight university, to recognition of prior service with other Australian universities, up to 26 weeks of paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, flexible working arrangements, and genuine career progression opportunities via the academic promotions process.
