The Department of Immunotechnology conducts research ranging from advanced technology development to biomedical studies. The main research areas include sensitization, immuno-oncology, and biomarkers. The modern facilities are located at Medicon Village, where academic research is carried out side by side with private companies and actors from the healthcare sector. A number of important infrastructures are available, including specialized laboratories for antibody development, flow cytometry, spatial omics, and mass spectrometry, as well as NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden). The Department hosts a therapeutic antibody unit, which is part of the national research platform SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development. The Department is also responsible for several student courses and offers high-quality education at both undergraduate and advanced levels. You will be part of a research group in molecular evolution that focuses on studies and development of antibodies in health and disease.
The research focus of the position lies within the field of molecular evolution in adaptive immunity, specifically in the development and evolution of antibodies in allergic disease and in response to allergen-specific immunotherapy. The research group conducts experimental and translational research in close collaboration with specialists at Skåne University Hospital. The team collects samples of allergic subjects undergoing allergen-specific immunotherapy to study humoral immunity as it develops during such treatment. We use single-cell sequencing, next generation sequencing of antibody-encoding gene repertoires, recombinant antibody development, and immunochemical analysis to study the evolution of such responses during therapy, in combination with assessment of clinical outcomes of the therapy to define biomarkers with capacity to predict treatment outcomes. We are now seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in studies of antibody responses using related technologies.
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity for further development.
The postdoctoral position includes a combination of experimental work, data analysis, as well as interpretation and presentation of research results. The main part of the work for the advertised position involves studies of specific antibodies and antibody repertoires as they develop in allergic disease and in response to allergen-specific immunotherapy. Research will focus on immunoglobulin VDJ single-cell sequencing, next generation sequencing, antibody repertoire studies including use of computational analysis pipelines, recombinant antibody production, and immunochemical analysis. The research, with a focus on a clinical cohort undergoing such therapy, is carried out in collaboration with a clinical research team at Skåne University Hospital.
Work duties include:
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years ago before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Additional requirements:
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.
For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
Consideration will also be given to how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
