Department of Chemistry, Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Dermot O'Hare for a period of up to two years. The project involves the synthesis of functional polyolefins and is funded by SCG Chemicals PLC, Thailand and lies within the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence, which is a multimillion-pound, long-term collaboration between SCG Chemicals PLC and the University of Oxford.
The postholder will undertake the synthesis and characterization of functional polypropylenes, contributing to the development of materials for advanced, high-value applications. This will include applying expertise in inorganic polymerization catalysis and organic functional group chemistry, analyzing experimental data, and working closely with project partners. The role will also involve contributing to collaborative research activities, including interaction with industrial partners and dissemination of results through publications and presentations.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry or a relevant subject area, (or be very close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires experience in polymer synthesis from both an organometallic catalysis and an organic synthesis and characterization perspective. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry and is available as soon as possible.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement (no more than five pages), please explain how you meet each of the selection criteria found in the job description.
Certificates, references, and research papers should not be provided at this stage.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Monday 27 April 2026, UK time. Interviews are expected to be held at the beginning of May 2026.
The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
