Life and Mind Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3PS
About the role
The post holder will join an active tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery research group with the IOI, contributing to translational antibacterial research focused on Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The post is full-time and available immediately. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out research within a defined area of an ongoing programme focused on metabolic profiling and target validation to support TB drug discovery. The role will involve the application of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) approaches to quantify cellular metabolism and measure changes in metabolite abundance following chemical inhibition or genetic perturbation of priority drug targets. The post holder will work as part of a collaborative research team and will provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students. The role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to active drug discovery programmes targeting one of the world's leading infectious disease killers.
About you
You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil together with relevant experience in TB research. You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. You will also have experience in LC-MS for the measurement of small molecules/metabolomics, working with M tuberculosis in a CL3 laboratory, as well as experience in designing, performing, and analysing stable-isotope labelling based mass spectrometry assays.
