Postdoctoral Researcher in Diabetes Epidemiology

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Diabetes Epidemiology group at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), Karolinska Institutet. Our research focuses on uncovering the causes and consequences of diabetes across the life course, with the ultimate goal of improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

You will join a dynamic, international research environment at one of the world's leading medical universities, working at the intersection of epidemiology, biostatistics, and large-scale health data. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research that addresses some of the most pressing challenges in diabetes and public health today.

Your Mission

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on projects investigating the aetiology and prognosis of different forms of diabetes. The research draws on exceptional data resources, including nationwide Swedish health registers, large population-based cohorts, and studies with detailed questionnaire, clinical, genetic, and biological data.

You will play an active role in the full research process: developing novel research questions, designing rigorous analytical strategies, managing and analysing large-scale datasets, and publishing findings in leading international journals. The position provides considerable scientific independence, as well as close collaboration with experienced epidemiologists, clinicians, and international partners.

The postdoctoral position is a two-year fixed-term appointment.

Your Profile

We are looking for an ambitious researcher with a strong quantitative background and a genuine curiosity for medical and population health research. You hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, medicine) and have solid experience working with complex datasets.

You have demonstrated expertise in epidemiological methods and biostatistics, including independent statistical analyses using software such as R and/or SAS. Experience in register-based research, diabetes, or cardiometabolic disease is an advantage but not a requirement.

You enjoy collaborating in multidisciplinary teams, are keen to develop new methodological skills, and are comfortable mentoring students or junior colleagues. Excellent written and spoken English is required.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
